W. Golf: Woad Named As WGCA Freshman Of The Year Finalist

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s Lottie Woad, who was named the ACC Freshman of the Year earlier this season, has been named as one of five finalists for the Division I WGCA Freshman of the Year Award Presented by StrackaLine.  Woad will lead the Seminoles into the NCAA Championship Finals at the Grayhawk Country Club in Scottsdale, Az., with a 70.89 stroke average, six top five finishes, a cumulative total of 22 strokes under par, and with individual championships at both the Ivy Intercollegiate and the Florida State Match Up.

Woad finished in 13th place at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur at the Augusta National Golf Club as she played in the event for the first time in her career.  She carded a 3 under par score of 69 in round two and carded an even par 72 in the third and final round to finish with a 2 over par score of 218 (77-69-72).  Woad finished the ANWA as one of just 13 players in the field of 72 who carded final scores of 218 or better.

Woad leads the Seminoles this season with her low round of 65 in the Schooner Fall Classic and with her two individual wins.  She is tied for the team lead with seven top-10 finishes.  She has carded 12 of her 28 rounds in the 60’s (.429percent), has finished as Florida State’s leading golfer in seven of the Seminoles’ 10 events, has carded two eagles, and is 3-0 in match play entering the NCAA Championship Finals.

Florida State, which finished fifth at the NCAA Raleigh Regional, is seeded No. 8 in the 30-team field at the NCAA Championship Finals.

“Lottie has enjoyed such a great year,” said Head Coach Amy Bond.  “She has acclimated herself so incredibly well as a student-athlete at Florida State, and her play on the golf course has certainly followed suit.  The consistency with how she goes about her business – both on and off of the course – is fun to watch.”

Woad, who also earned All-ACC honors, won her first individual title at the Ivy Intercollegiate in the fall and won the individual championship and led Florida State Match Up in the spring.

Woad totaled scores of 66-70-70 for a three-round total of 7 under par 206 in the Cougar Classic to begin her career.  Her individual performance ranks as the best debut in school history for individual finish and total score.  She then led Florida State with an eighth place individual finish and scores of 65-71-69 for a three-round total of 5 under par 205 at the Schooner Fall Classic.  Woad tied Florida State’s all-time school-record with a 5 under par 65 and was in a tie for third place in the individual standings after the first round of the Schooner Fall Classic.

Florida State begins play in the NCAA Championship Finals at 3:25 p.m. on Friday, May 19.  The Seminoles will play with San Jose State and Southern Cal in the first and second rounds of the championship.

Florida State’s Frida Kinhult was named as the WGCA Freshman of the Year in 2019.
