TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Florida State golfers Charlotte Heath and Amelia Williamson have been named to the Great Britain and Ireland Team for the 2022 Curtis Cup. Heath has been selected to play in the prestigious event for the second consecutive year while Williamson will make her debut in the event which takes place June 10-12 at the Merion Golf Club in Merion, Pa. The competition is a three-day event, with foursomes and fourball matches on each of the first two days, and eight singles matches on the final day.
Florida State is the only school with multiple players named to the team. Lottie Woad, an incoming player who begins her freshman season as a Seminole this fall, has been named as a reserve for the GB&I team.
Heath, who earned one point in a losing effort for the GB&I team in the 2021 Curtis, Cup, is ranked third in school history with a 72.61 career stroke average in 16 career events. She is Florida State’s second leading golfer this spring with a 72.79 stroke average and is tied for the team lead this spring with three top-10 finishes. Heath finished in fourth place in the Moon Invitational, in a tie for fifth place at the Valspar Augusta Invitational and in a tie for seventh at the Clemson Invitational.
“I’m really excited to be selected again,” said Heath. “I think last year the Americans played much more aggressive than us so it is definitely something to take into the week.”
Williamson, who was named to represent the International Team in this summer’s Arnold Palmer Cup in Switzerland, is in the midst of enjoying the best season of her Florida State career. She is averaging a career-low 71.91 strokes per round as a senior, won her first career individual championship at the Florida State Match-Up in February and has earned four top-10 finishes this year. Williamson finished in ninth place at the Moon Invitational, in first place at the FSU Match Up and in a tie for eighth place at the ACC Championship in the final regular season event for the Seminoles.
“I am honored to have been selected for two such prestigious events and am excited for the opportunities which they may present to me,” said Williamson. “I feel they have been a long time coming and am happy that my hard work is paying off.”
Heath is ranked No. 51 and Williamson No. 53 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
Both Heath and Williamson are eagerly awaiting Wednesday’s announcement of the 2022 NCAA Regional Championships. The No. 13 Seminoles will play host to the regional championship (May 9-11) at the Seminole Legacy Golf Course.
