TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – (Seminoles.com) – Junior outside hitter Nicole Walch was named the ACC Player of the Week, which was announced by the league office on Monday.
“Nicole played very well for us this weekend,” FSU head coach Chris Poole said. “In order for our team to have success this season, Nicole knows she needs to step up and be a leader and she did a very good job of that this weekend. I am very proud of her.”
Starting off the weekend, Walch led the attack in the 3-1 upset over No. 7 Nebraska in Lincoln in front of a record-setting crowd of 8,854 with double-double figures, scoring 18 kills and 15 digs.
On Sunday against Iowa State Walch spearheaded the attack once again with 18 kills, hitting for .469 percent. The Stuart, Fla. native averaged 5.14 kills per set for the weekend.
Walch also contributed four blocks in Sunday’s victory.
“This weekend was awesome,” Walch said. “We played very well and that was huge for us. This is such a great honor and a good way to start off the season. Hopefully we can continue to play well as we get ready for Florida on Thursday.”
The Seminoles return to Tully Gym on Sept. 4 to play No. 11 Florida at 6 p.m. The match will be on ESPN3.
