OKLAHOMA CITY ( – In one of the most successful seasons in a decade, the No. 3 Florida State softball program continues to receive awards and honors from around the country. Maddie O’Brien and Lacey Waldrop were named NFCA First Team All-Americans as announced on May 28. This is the first time in school history that Florida State has had two First-Team All-Americans in the same season.

“I am really proud of these girls for how they have lead this team this season,” said head coach Lonni Alameda. “They will be the first to tell you that the individual accolades mean nothing if the team isn’t successful and that mentality flows through the entire team. This family plays for each other, fights for each other and encourages each other to be the best they can be. I am so happy for them.”

Waldrop continues to receive accolades for her amazing 2014 season. She was named the USA Softball National Player of the Year on May 27 and was chosen as the ACC Pitcher of the Year on May 8.

The Chester, Va., native leads the nation with a 38-5 record and is third in the NCAA with a 1.01 ERA. She has eight wins against ranked teams this season, including two against top-10 teams. Waldrop was named a third team All-American in 2013.

O’Brien has been a nightmare for pitchers all season. The Palm Harbor, Fla., native has the highest slugging percentage (.964) and has driven in the most RBI (83) in the country this season.

She also has 24 home runs, 17 doubles, 61 runs scored and 54 walks. The 2014 ACC Player of the Year had a streak from April 16-20 of reaching base on 18 consecutive plate appearances over five games against Pitt and Syracuse.

As a team, Florida State begins their national championship quest on Thursday as it battles No. 1 seed Oregon at 1:30 p.m. CT on ESPN at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
