HANAHAN, S.C. ( – Sophomore Beatrice Wallin finished in a tie for seventh place in the individual standings, and the Florida State Women’s Golf Team finished in a tie for seventh place in the team standings as play in the 16th Annual Cougar Classic at the Yeamans Hall Club came to a conclusion. Wallin finished with a 1 over par score of 73 and finished with a career-best 5 under par total of 211 to earn the third top-10 finish of her career.

Vanderbilt played the best team round of the third round to win the championship by one stroke over Wake Forest. The Commodores earned the best team scores in the first and the third rounds to win the season opening tournament for all 17 teams in the field. Auston Kim of Vanderbilt shot a 6 under par score of 66 and finished with a 16 under par total of 200 to win the individual championship. She was one of three golfers in the field who finished with an under par score in reach of the three rounds.

“We didn’t take advantage of the scoreable positions,” said Head Coach Amy Bond. “We have a lot of things we have to tighten up on as we go through the fall. The good thing is this was only the first tournament of the year, and we have plenty of time to work on the things we have to fix.”

Wallin earned her third career top-10 finish as she carded a 1 over par score of 73 in the final round to finish the 54-hole event with a score of 211. She carded scores of 68-70-73 to finish as the Seminoles’ leader for the third time in her career.

In the final round of the Cougar Classic, Wallin totaled two birdies and 16 rounds scored at par or better. She finished well as she was 1 under par over the course of her final 10 holes of the round.

Wallin’s tied for seventh place finish marked her best individual placement since finishing in a career-best tied for third place at the spring 2018 Evans Derby Experience.

Senior All-American Amanda Doherty and sophomore All-American Frida Kinhult finished in a tie for 20th place in the individual standings with identical three-round scores of 215. The under par finishes by Wallin (minus five), Doherty (minus one) and Kinhult (minus one) allowed the Seminoles to finish the event as one of only four teams (Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Florida and Florida State) with at least three players at under par for the entire tournament.

Doherty carded a 2 under par score of 70 in the final round to finish under par for the 10th time in her career.   She carded two birdies and the sixth eagle of her Florida State career in shooting her score of 70. Doherty closed well as she birded her final two holes of the round; she was four strokes under par on her final 11 holes of the round.

Kinhult finished the tournament with a score of 74 in the third round and a total of 215. Her best score of the tournament came as a 67 in the second round. Kinhult has now finished under par in eight of the first 11 tournaments of her career and is a cumulative total of minus 34 strokes under par for her entire Florida State career.

Sophomore Caroline Hodge carded the best round of her career, a 75, in the final round to finish with a three-round total of 234. Hodge finished with career-best scores for a single-round (75 in the third round), a three round tournament (234) and a three-round tournament vs par (+18) in her first career Cougar Classic appearance.

Florida State travels to play its second of four fall tournaments at the Schooner Fall Classic Sept. 27-29 in Norman, Okla. The Seminoles won the championship at the Schooner Classic in 2016.
