OPELIKA, Ala. (seminoles.com) – Florida State freshman Beatrice Wallin is in a tie for third place in the individual standings, and the No. 11 ranked Seminole women’s golf team is in fourth place in the team standings with one round remaining to be played in the Evans Derby Experience at the Saugahatchee Country Club. Wallin has a two-round total of 143 and begins play in the final round only one stroke behind Kaitlyn Papp, the individual leader from the University of Texas. The Seminoles, who moved up one place in the team standings, are only 10 strokes behind Texas, as they play for the second team title and fifth top-five team finish of the year.

Florida State is coming off of its team championship in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate two weeks ago – when the Seminoles played their best golf of the season. The Seminoles are ranked No. 11 nationally and are currently placed ahead of five teams in the nation’s top-20 including No. 7 Florida (sixth place) and No. 9 South Carolina (tied for ninth).

“We played a pretty good round of golf today,” said Head Coach Amy Bond. “The wind picked up late in the round and the conditions got tough, but I thought we handled that stretch of golf well. We have put ourselves in a good position to make a run tomorrow. We simply have to follow our game plan and we could enjoy a really positive day.

“I sense the girls will continue to play well as a group and put together a strong round of five good scores,” said Bond. “If we do that, I like our chances at the end of the round.”

Wallin has carded scores of 72-71 for a total of 143 as she looks for her first individual championship and first career top-five finish as a Seminole. She carded four birdies and was 1 under par on her final nine holes.

After carding an even par score of 72 in Saturday’s first round, Wallin moved up four positions on the individual leaderboard with her score of 71 on Sunday.

Florida State was led in the second round by freshman Frida Kinhult, who carded a 2 under par score of 70. She is in a tie for 12th place with a two-round total of 145. Kinhult is looking to up her streak of top-10 individual finishes to seven consecutive as she has finished in the top 10 of the individual standings in the first six events of her Florida State career. She is the first freshman in school history to finish in the top 10 in the first six events of her career.

Kinhult totaled three birdies and 17 holes scored at par or better as Florida State finished with the third best ream round on Sunday. She was consistent on her front nine with a string of nine birdies and was never above par during the round. Kinhult birdied two of her first three holes on her back nine and closed the round at 1 under par on her final six holes of the day.

Freshman Puk Lyng Thomsen is in a tie for 19th place in the individual standings with a two-day total of 147. She carded a team-leading 71 in the first round. After finishing in a tie for 22nd place in the individual standings at the Darius Rucker, Thomsen is playing for the first top-20 finish of her Seminole career.

The Seminoles begin final round play at 9:20 a.m. and are paired with Auburn and Kent State in the second to last group of the day and begin play on hole No. 1.
