ATLANTA, Ga. (seminoles.com) – Junior Beatrice Wallin is in first place in the individual standings, and the No. 2 ranked Florida State Women’s Golf Team in in first place in the team standings after the first two rounds of the Pinetree Collegiate at the Pinetree Country Club. Wallin tied the school record for a single round score of 65 in the second round as she totaled seven birdies in setting a personal best for a single round.
Florida State finished the second round with a 4-under par score of 284 and leads second place Kennesaw State by six strokes entering Tuesday’s final round of play. The Seminoles will play for their second team title of the spring season after winning the Florida State Match-Up in February. The Seminoles have earned top-four team finishes in each of their first three events of the spring.
We got off to a bit of a slow start in this morning’s round but then played a really good second round this afternoon,” said Head Coach Amy Bond. “I am proud of how we flipped the switch in the second round. The course is a bit quirky and we are learning each time around. The goal tomorrow is to play our game and control what we can control. This will be a good test for this young team at this point in the season.”
Wallin assumed the individual lead during the second round as she carded her career best score of 65. She birdied four holes on her front nine and three on her back nine including her final hole of the day to move to seven strokes under par.
Freshman Alice Hodge carded a career best score of 2 under par 70 in the first round while junior Amelia Williamson carded a 2 under par score of 70 in the second round.
In taking over the team lead, Florida State has four golfers in the top 12 of the individual standings after two rounds: Wallin (1st, 139), freshman Charlotte Heath (T8th, 147), Hodge (T8th, 147) and Williamson (T12th, 148).
