What’s In Your Bag With Alex Milan

April 18, 2013

Alex Milan is busy preparing to play in the ACC Championships for the second time in her career this weekend at the Sedgefield Country Club. She has earned her way back into the line-up and will play in her sixth event of her sophomore season. Milan sat down with seminoles.com before the team left for Greensboro and discussed her two career holes in one, her favorite club and how she marks her golf balls.

What is your favorite club and why?
My favorite club is my 8 iron. It’s reliable and I use it to chip, hit lower trajectory shots and play into greens.

You can carry 14 clubs in your bag. What is your system for how you fill your bag with different types of clubs?
My putter gets its own slot, then my wedges get another slot, my 9, 8 and 7 are together, then my 6, 5, and 4 share another. And my 7 wood, 5 wood, 3 wood, driver and umbrella all get put into the top slot.

What type of ball do you use (more carry, less spin, etc.) and how do you mark them for each round?
I use a Pro V1 and love the spin around the greens. I mark it with just a gold line.

Does the mark have any significant meaning? How long have you been marking your golf balls that way?
I mark it with gold for some school spirit and have been marking my golf balls that way for the past two seasons.

What have you put on the outside of your bag as decorations?
I don’t decorate my bag.

Do you carry anything inside of your bag for good luck? How long have you carried that particular item? Where did you get it? Who did you get it from?
I mark my golf balls on the course with a quarter from the 60s because I want to shoot in the 60s. I’ve been doing it since I can remember. My dad is definitely responsible for this superstition.

How long have you been playing with the set of clubs that are in your bag right now?
I have had my current clubs since my freshman year of high school.

How do you mark your golf balls on the green? Do you carry a specific coin? Marker?
Yes, it is a quarter from the 60s. And always a gold sharpie! Go Noles!

What is your career low round score? Where and when did you achieve it?
My love round was a 64 in districts in high school at Heritage Isles. I was 16 years old.

Do you have any career holes-in-one?,br>
I have had two holes in ones in my career. One with an 8 iron and one with a 7 iron.

What is your most memorable shot?
My most memorable shot was my first hole in one. I was 13 and playing in a tournament. No one came to watch that day but I was lucky that one of my friends was on a tee box and managed to see it!

What is your most favorite course?
My favorite course I Calusa Pines in Naples, Fla.. I got to play it for the Florida Junior Cup. It was an amazing Florida course.
