Women’s Golf In 2nd Place At ACC Championship

Second Round Team Leaderboard / Second Round Individual Leaderboard / Third Round Tee Times

GREENSBORO, N.C. (seminoles.com) – Junior Amanda Doherty is in fourth place in the individual standings, and the No. 9 ranked Seminole women’s golf team is in second place in the team standings after the second round of the 31st Annual ACC Women’s Golf Championship at the Sedgefield Country Club. Doherty carded a 4-under par score of 68 in the second round and has a two round total of 141. The Seminoles carded the best team score of the second round and moved from a tie for fifth place in the team standings after the first round into a tie for second with Virginia and behind only Wake Forest heading into the final round.

The tournament format was altered because of expected bad weather in the Greensboro area on Friday. The 12 teams in the event played 36 holes on Thursday, have an off-day from competition on Friday and will play 18 holes for the team and individual championships on Saturday beginning at 8:30.

Doherty is only four strokes behind Emilia Migliaccio of Wake Forest, the individual leader. Migliaccio earned scores of 66 and 71 and was the only player in the 60-golfer field to card under par scores in both of the first two rounds. The Seminoles carded a 285 team score in the second round as they counted two scores below par in putting themselves into contention for their first ever ACC championship.

“We didn’t get off to the best of starts but this group finishes well and played the last 29 holes really, really well,” said Head Coach Amy Bond. “We played the best second round of the day and though we have some work to do, we have put ourselves in position to catch Wake Forest on Saturday.”

Doherty carded scores of 73 and 68 on Thursday and certainly played her best golf in the second round. She carded four birdies and one eagle (the fifth of her Seminole career) and has put herself in position to win her first ACC championship and the first by a Seminole in the history of the event. Doherty carded two birdies on her front nine and two birdies and one eagle on her back nine. She closed her round at 3 under par on her final six holes of the round.

“I started hitting the ball a lot better and I got a few putts to fall (in the second round),” said Doherty. “On 15, I hit a decent drive, but my second shot into the green was really good. I was able to make about a 15-foot shot for eagle.”

Doherty’s score of 68 in the second round was just one off of her personal ACC best round of 67 in the second round of the 2018 ACC Championship. Her eagle was her first since the second round of the NCAA Tallahassee Regional Championship on May 7, 2018. Doherty’s score of 68 was her fourth score of her junior year carded in the 60’s.

Kinhult carded a 2-under par score of 70 in the second round and is in seventh place in the individual standings with a two-round total of even par 144. Playing in her first career ACC Championship, Kinhult carded three birdies and one eagle in the second round to finish at par or better in her 17th round this season.

Kinhult begins play in the final round looking to earn her eight consecutive top-10 finish – she has finished in the top 10 of each of the first seven events of her Florida State career.

Freshman Puk Lyng Thomsen has carded two scores of 73 and has a two round total of 143. Her two round total of 143 is the second best 36-hole score of her career. Thomsen carded three birdies in the second round and two in the first for a total of five over her first 36 holes. She has now carded four consecutive scores of 73 or better in the last two events.

Thomsen is in a tie for 13th place in the individual standings.

Freshman Beatrice Wallin has a two-round total of 147 and is in a tie for 18th place in the individual standings. Freshman Amelia Williamson carded a 2 over par score of 74 in the second round and is in a tie for 49th place.

Florida State and Wake Forest are the only two teams who have four players in the top 20 of the individual standings, while the Seminoles are one of four teams that carded at least one team round under par on the first day of the 2019 ACC Championship.
