Women’s Hoops Predicted Fifth in the ACC

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State Women’s Basketball received another pre-season prediction on Wednesday, this time being pegged to finish fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel and the ACC head coaches.

The Seminoles have enjoyed a remarkable run of finishing in the top four of the ACC in six of the last seven seasons, joining only Louisville among teams to enjoy such a streak since the 2014-15 season. Last year, FSU was predicted to finish eighth according to the league’s head coaches and wound up in fourth place.

Since the ACC expanded to its current group of schools in 2014-15, the 2020-21 Seminoles were the first team to be picked as low as eighth by the league’s head coaches and finish in the top four of the conference. In the 2021-22 season, 11 of those student-athletes return.

NC State was selected to finish first in the league by both the Blue Ribbon Panel and the ACC head coaches. The top five in the league according to both polls is NC State, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and FSU.

Since the 2012-13 season, when both the ACC coaches and B/R Panel selections were implemented, FSU has finished above its expectation in six of those seasons.

With the return of 93 percent of its scoring from a season ago, the Seminoles are looking to clinch their eighth consecutive winning season in ACC play. Four-time ACC Coach of the Year Sue Semrau also returns to the sidelines, and has the benefit of coaching alongside previous interim head coach Brooke Wyckoff, whom she refers to as a co-head coach this season.

Season tickets are on sale now on Seminoles.com or can be purchased by calling the FSU Athletics Ticket Office at 1-888-FSU-NOLE.
