Womens Hoops Ranked 15th by Lindys Magazine

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State Women’s Basketball has tacked on another high expectation preseason ranking. Lindy’s Magazine gave the Seminoles their highest ranking yet, pegging FSU at 15th in its annual college basketball Top 25 edition.

In a couple of way-too-early polls, Florida State was rated 17th by ESPNW and 19th by The Athletic. FSU’s official rankings by the Associated Press and the USA TODAY won’t be released until shortly before its season tips off on Tuesday, Nov. 9, vs. UNF.

Lindy’s praises FSU for having all five starters back from last season, which includes four seniors in point guard Bianca Jackson (14.1 ppg), returning All-American Morgan Jones (12.8), guard Kourtney Weber (11.8), forward Valencia Myers (8.2) and junior guard/forward Sammie Puisis (6.9).

The magazine also pits redshirt junior forward Erin Howard as a key piece missing from last season due to injury. The Madison, Wis., native was one of Auburn’s top players two seasons ago when she led the Tigers in 3-point shooting, 3-point field goals made and blocked shots.

The four-year senior class that includes Amaya Brown (33 games played), Jones (84), Myers (83), Izabela Nicoletti (10) and Weber (83) have a lot of experience playing together, playing a big role as freshmen in 2018-19 when FSU reached the NCAA Second Round with the youngest roster in the NCAA Tournament.

FSU is one of five ACC teams in the Lindy’s Preseason Top 25, joining No. 6 Louisville, No. 7 NC State, No. 20 Georgia Tech and No. 21 Virginia Tech. The Hokies and Seminoles meet in Tallahassee in FSU’s ACC opener on Sunday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.

The Seminoles were last ranked in the preseason in the 2019-20 season, being selected 12th by the AP. FSU reached the ACC Championship game in that season, which was the last game current head coach Sue Semrau was involved in after taking a leave of absence last year to care for her mother.

Season tickets for the 2021-22 season can be purchased on Seminoles.com or by calling the FSU Athletics Ticket Office at 1-888-FSU-NOLE.
