Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Stetson

Sept. 9, 1999

TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Florida State soccer team took a 4-0 win
over the Stetson Hatters tonight at the Seminole Soccer Complex. The
Seminoles improve to 3-2 as they Hatters drop to 1-3.

“We struggled a little bit in the first half, whether it was from
the long day on Tuesday or what but we came around in the second half and
got it done,” Head Coach Patrick Baker said. “Our second half had the
characteristics of how we can play and how we need to be playing. The
second half was definitely stronger because we took the chances we created
and finished some of those off. Now we just need to finish off the others.”

Freshman Cindy Schofield knocked in the first goal at the 35:36
mark off a rebounded ball from Stetson goalkeeper Genevieve Roy. Junior
Sarah Deacon added her goal at the 53:09 mark after a scramble in the goal
box. Sophomore Maren Vik Edvardsen then knocked in two goals, one
unassisted at the 73:10 mark and the other off an cross from Schofield at
81:19. The Seminoles also outshot the Hatters 30-1 with Roy tallying eight
saves for Stetson.

“We knew Stetson would come out and play us hard tonight,” Baker
said. “Whether it was the television game or being an in-state rival, we
knew they would come out hungry. We did a good job of defending but also
did an excellent job in creating the scoring chances.”

The Seminoles will return to action on Saturday, September 11 as
they head to Miami to take on the Florida International Golden Panthers at
