Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis program and head coach Jennifer Hyde announced the signing Thursday of Andrea Garcia Fernandez for the upcoming 2016-17 season. The Quintueles, Spain, native is the third player to sign for the Seminoles who will join the squad this fall.
“We are excited to add Andrea to an already deep and very solid recruiting class for 2016,” Hyde said of the signing. “She has a champions’ mentality, temperament, and work ethic, all of which will be contagious in our team setting. She brings a tremendous amount of international playing experience with her as well. She is an excellent complement to our team culture and we are thrilled for her arrival to Tallahassee in August.”
Among the highlights in Fernandez’s career, she was the Champion of 2015 XXI International Junior de Leiria ITF Title in Portugal and doubles Champion at the same ITF tournament in 2014. She has reached three other doubles ITF Semifinals, including the Vall de Uxo, Spain ITF in 2014. She also reached the Quarterfinals of the National Spanish Championships in 2015.
Fernandez has ranked as high as No. 32 in the National Spanish Open Women’s rankings.
Fernandez joins the previously announced commitments from top ranked Mary Haffey and Nandini Das. Prior to the signing of Fernandez, the Seminoles 2016 recruiting class was already ranked No. 14 in the country by TennisRecruiting.net.
