Women’s Tennis Completes Day One Of Hurricane Classic

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Florida State’s women’s tennis team headed
south to face teams from around the Southeast at the Hurricane Classic. The
Lady Seminoles earned three victories Friday, as junior Alida Gallovits
advances to the quarterfinals round of the singles flight A division.

After defeating Lindsey Wyeth of Stetson in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, and
FIU’s Alexandra Guzman 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 Gallovits will advance to the
quarterfinals. Saturday morning Gallovits will face the No. 4 seed Julia
Scaringe of Florida. Also competing in the singles flight A division were
Lady Noles Christina Denny and Jessica Balbuena. Denny advanced to the round
of 16 after defeating Barry Colleges Victoria Cormes in straight sets, 6-2,
6-4. Saturday morning Denny will face Kristen Jordan of Florida to see who
will advance to the quarterfinals round. Junior Balbuena fell Friday to
Scaringe 4-6, 4-6.

In singles flight C division freshman Beth Lawrence entered the Classic as
the No. 2 seed. Friday she fell in tournament play to FAU’s Stephanie
Beaulieu 4-6, 2-6.

Doubles matches were unable to be completed Friday due to rain.
The Lady Seminoles will continue play at the Hurricane Classic Saturday
morning beginning at 9.
