Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team continues their 2017 fall season with three members of the team staying in state and competing in the Bedford Cup and the four others competing in the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Northwestern.
“Both tournaments are going to give us a great opportunity for a ton of matches, which right now everyone needs,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “It is great to go back-to-back weekends with competition. We need the experience of being in matches and pressure situations.”
The trio of senior Gabby Castaneda, sophomore Gabby Goldin and freshman Lucie Prochazkova will head to Tampa, Fla. to compete in the annual Bedford Cup event hosted by USF. The Bedford Cup is an all-Florida Tournament sponsored by the Youth Tennis Foundation of Florida. It will host 10 of the 11 Division I tennis teams in the state of Florida. Play begins at 9:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, with the finals and consolation finals on Sunday.
“The big thing this weekend that we are looking for the team to do is focus on what we did in practice this week and carry it into the matches this weekend,” said Hyde.
Four Seminoles will head north to play in the Wildcat Invitational. Junior Ariana Rahmanparast, sophomores Nandini Das and Andrea Garcia will compete alongside freshman Petra Hule. The tournament is comprised of 14 schools – five that finished 2017 ranked in the Top-35, including Florida State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Michigan and Kentucky. Play begins at 10 a.m. ET on Friday, 11 a.m. ET on Saturday and 10 a.m. ET on Sunday.
“These two trips will be the last road trips of the year where we split up,” said Hyde. “The team will have a lot of chances to get individual attention this weekend, but after this it will be all about the team heading into the end of the fall and into the spring.”
