Women’s Tennis Falls to Alabama 4-3

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Florida State women’s tennis team lost a heartbreaker on the road to no. 24 Alabama Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Seminoles fall to 6-5 on the season.

In doubles play, freshman Lauren Walker and Jessica Balbuena won the no. 1 doubles match 9-7. The Crimson Tide took to no. 2 and no. 3 doubles matches to win the doubles point.

Sophomore Anca Dumitrescu took the no. 1 singles match over Jenny Ketchum, 6-3, 6-2, which gave her her eighth dual match win of the season. At no. 2 singles, senior Alida Gallovits defeated Seila Mathew 7-6, 6-3. Sophomore Christina Denny also won her no. 4 singles match, defeating Sohie Cremins in a third set tiebreaker, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6.The Crimson Tide took the no. 3, no. 5 and no. 6 matches to win the contest, 4-3.

The Seminoles return to action Friday, March 1st when the 25th ranked Miami Hurricanes come to Tallahassee. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
