TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s Department of Athletic Academic Support released today that the FSU women’s tennis team recorded the highest team GPA of the 2005-06 academic year. The women’s tennis team had a combined GPA of 3.467 for the academic year and a 3.507 average for the 2006 spring semester.

“I think it is extremely important to have student-athletes that excel in the classroom, in the community and on the court,” second-year FSU head coach Jennifer Hyde said. “I am very proud of the hard work and dedication our players displayed towards academics this year. It is not easy to play a collegiate sport and be a student because of the time and travel demands. However, our student-athletes made a valiant effort to succeed in all perimeters of their lives and I couldn’t be more pleased.”

Seven of the players on the squad landed on the 2006 ACC Honor Roll and five of the student-athletes on the team finished the spring semester with a GPA above 3.5.

In addition, FSU senior Alina Mihailescu graduated Magna Cum Laude and freshman Lisa Nystrom-Skold found a spot on the President’s List in the spring semester with an impressive 4.0 GPA.

Freshman and All-ACC first team member Ania Rynarzewska and juniors Nicola Slater and Carolin Walter were named to the FSU Dean’s List with GPAs above 3.5.
