TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team will host Georgia Tech and Clemson to finish out the regular season. The match against the Yellow Jackets is Saturday at 11 a.m., while the Seminoles will face the Clemson Tigers at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Both matches will be played at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on the campus of Florida State University.
The Seminoles enter the weekend ranked 73rd nationally and have a 10-12 overall record and are 1-4 in conference play. The 17th ranked Yellow Jackets boast a record of13-7 and are 3-4 in the ACC. Clemson enters the match ranked 44th and is 12-7 on the season and 4-1 in the ACC. The Seminoles feature sophomore Anca Dumitrescu who is ranked 42nd in singles.
The Seminoles have only lost to the Yellow Jackets twice in the 16 times the teams have met. This season Georgia Tech has two players ranked in singles, Jaime Wong is 48th and Catherine Gunn is 52nd. Last season, the Seminoles defeated the Yellow Jackets 6-1 in Atlanta.
The Clemson Tigers have a slight edge over the Seminoles in the all-time series as they have won nine of the 17 matches. This season’s Clemson team features Alix Lacelarie and Anna Savitskaya, who are ranked 47th and 102nd in singles, respectively. The Tigers also has one doubles team ranked, Laurence Jayet and Lacelarie are ranked 26th. Last season, the Seminoles defeated Clemson on the road in a 5-2 decision.
With these matches, the Seminoles will complete their regular season. The Seminoles will next head to Raleigh, N.C. to compete in the ACC Tournament, which will be April 18-21.
