Women’s Tennis Opens NCAA First Round on Saturday

GAINESVILLE, Fla. ( – The Florida State Women’s Tennis Team begins its 23rd year of NCAA Postseason play on Saturday morning when it battles FIU in the NCAA First Round held at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Fla.

The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. ET and can be streamed on the TennisONE App.

“It’s the best time of the year without a doubt, and we can’t wait to lace it up at 11 a.m. on Saturday against FIU,” Head Coach Jen Hyde said. “This whole season has been a mission of sorts, and this team and program have come a long way since January. It’s Go Time now, and we are excited for the opportunity ahead of us.”

The Seminoles (14-10) are ranked 35th in the latest ITA Rankings, while the Panthers (17-4) are rated 42nd. The winner of Saturday morning’s match faces the winner of regional host Florida and South Alabama on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

Florida State is making its fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and its 15th since 2004. Overall, FSU owns a 17-5 record vs. FIU, with the two teams last competing on Feb. 22, 2013, in a 4-1 road victory for the Seminoles.

Redshirt senior Petra Hule is up to No. 3 in the ITA Singles Rankings, owning a 21-1 record in the No. 1 singles position. Hule and sophomore Anna Arkadianou make up the nation’s 16th-ranked doubles tandem with a 9-6 record this year.

Arkadianou also has a winning record this spring season at 11-10, including a 6-5 mark out of the No. 3 singles position. Senior Kianah Motosono is 10-10 this spring and 6-5 out of the No. 5 spot.

The Panthers reached the semifinal round of the Conference USA Championship and have won 15 of their 17 dual matches. No. 1 singles player Yasmine Kabbaj has been ranked for much of the season and sports a 19-5 record in No. 1 singles this year.
