San Diego, CA – The 15th-ranked Seminole women’s tennis team opened their 2022 spring campaign on the West Coast taking part in the Torero Invitational hosted by USD. The Seminoles, who are returning just two starters from last year’s Elite Eight team, recorded five wins on the first day of the tournament.
Florida State started the day a perfect 3-0 in doubles. Petra Hule and Lesedi Jacobs won 6-3 over Stanford’s Valencia XU and Alexandra Yepifanova. Vic Allen and Anna Arkadianou defeated Sabina Machalova and Rachel Krzyzak of Ole Miss 6-3 and newcomers Olympe Lancelot and Kianah Motosono won 6-2 over Lillian Gabrielsen and Elysia Pool of Ole Miss.
In singles, Kentucky transfer Jacobs started her draw with a 6-4, 4-6 (10-6) win over Sofia Smagina of Ole Miss. Arkadianou also started her draw with a win defeating Cristina Tiglea of Texas Tech 3-6, 6-4 (10-5). Hule, who enters the season ranked 22nd in the nation, opened singles play falling to Solymar Cooling of USD 4-6, 2-6. Lancelot, a freshman competing in her first collegiate tournament, fell 6-2, 6-1 to Metka Komac of Texas Tech. Oklahoma transfer and Miami, FL native Motosono dropped a tight match 6-4, 3-6 (7-10) to Manyoma Velazquez of Kentucky.
