Women’s Tennis Wrapped up Play at the ITA Southeast Regional

ATHENS, Ga. –The Florida State women’s tennis team finished up play at the ITA Southeast Regional on Sunday. The Seminoles had two players left playing in the consolation singles for main draw first round losers.

“It was a pretty good weekend up in Athens for our third competition of the fall,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde.

Junior Ariana Rahmaparast and sophomore Gabby Goldin were the final two Noles left in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket. Both Noles fell in straight sets. Rahmanparast fell to Morgan Coppoc of Georgia 7-5, 6-4. Goldin lost to Silvia Bordes of UCF 6-3, 6-0.

The Noles had five singles players compete in the main draw at regionals. They combined for a 10-9 record and were led by freshman Petra Hule who made it to the round of 16 in the main draw. The other four Seminoles made it to the consolation quarterfinals.

“There were a couple of shining moments with Petra advancing to the round of 16 in what is one of the best, if not the best region in the country,” said Hyde. “She had opportunities to go even further, but her game is coming along really well. She is starting to put the pieces together. I think her success this weekend speaks to the future success she will have as a Seminole.”

In doubles, the Garnet and Gold amassed a 5-3 record amongst their three doubles teams. The Seminole duos of Das/Rahmanparast and Hule/Garcia both advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles main draw. Florida State was one of three schools to have two doubles teams in the quarterfinals.

“We had two of eight teams in the quarterfinals for doubles,” said Hyde. “Having that kind of representation is what we expect to have. I was glad to see the girls deliver on that.”

The Seminoles have continued to improve this fall and look to get the whole team back together as the Florida State women’s tennis team will host the FSU All-Conference Showdown on November 10-12.

“Overall, I think we have a really good idea of what we need to continue to work on,” said Hyde. “We are excited to get our whole team back together, which is where our biggest strength, is for our final fall tournament.”
