TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Incoming freshman Chase Wood, the top seed in the Tallahassee leg of the ITA Summer Circuit, defeated Alec Josepher 6-3, 6-1 to claim the main draw championship at the FSU Indoor Tennis Facility on Monday afternoon. Earlier in the day, Wood won the semifinal round 1-6, 6-1, 10-8 in a third set tiebreak.
As a seeded player, Wood had a bye to open the competition and then won four matches over the course of Saturday, Sunday, and Monday to advance to the final round.
Rising senior Terrell Whitehurst, the number two seed in the main draw, also won three matches through the weekend to advance to the semifinal round. Whitehurst fell to Josepher in three sets in the semifinals on Monday morning.
In the doubles bracket, top seed Andrew Rogers/Jake Beasley claimed the title, while on the women’s side, Anna Bright won the main draw and Rachel Rohrabacher/Jaclyn Switkes took the doubles draw. All four winners were No. 1 seeds.
The Tallahassee competition was one of nine host schools nationwide. Similar competitions will be held for six weeks leading up to the National Summer Championships held at Texas Christian University in August. +
About ITA Summer Circuit powered by UTR
The ITA Summer Circuit was created to provide college players the opportunity to compete in organized events virtually year-round.
The ITA office will track points and post a “points race standings” each week on the ITA website. At the conclusion of the circuit, the top 5 men and the top 5 women will receive automatic entry into the ITA National Summer Championships as well as a $600 travel reimbursement to be used towards the expense of attending the ITA National Summer Championships at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.
