World Cup Synchro Trials to be Held at Morcom

April 2, 2014

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State University has been selected to host its third major USA Diving event within the 2013-14 season as the World Cup Synchro Trials will take place from April 11-13 at the Morcom Aquatics Center.

Florida State has successfully hosted national events in the past, including the World Championship Trials in May of 2013 before the Zone Qualifier for Summer Nationals. The World Cup Synchro Trials will mark the second time the event will be held at FSU and the third time the venue has been used for an international qualifying meet since being established in 2008.

“Our facility is one of the best in the World,” head diving coach Patrick Jeffrey said. “For the second time within a year, some of the country’s best divers will be coming to this facility to compete, including some of our own divers. It’s a great event and we’re very proud to host it.”

Top divers from all over the nation will partner up and compete during the three day course in 3-meter and 10-meter synchro events for a chance to represent Team USA at the 2014 World Cup, which will be held July 15-20 in Shanghai. Individual event competitors for the meet have already been chosen following the 2013 U.S. Winter Diving Nationals.

Two Seminole divers are expected to compete.  Katrina Young, will try out for the 10-meter synchro event and senior Ariel Rittenhouse will participate in the 3-meter after she gets matched with a partner from a camp that is being held this week in Houston, Texas.

Amy Cozad, a four-time NCAA All-American while representing Indiana, will dive alongside Young and in the 10-meter syncro event. Cozad was selected to compete at the 2013 World Championships following her second place finish on platform at the trials.

“Amy and Katrina are some of the best platform divers in the country,” Jeffrey said. “They really enjoy diving together and I think they’re going to be a great team.”

The daily rate for admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children or fans can purchase a ticket for the entire three-day event for $15.
