TALLAHASSEE, FLA. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State Women’s Basketball redshirt senior guard Imani Wright will partake in the Marine’s Women’s 3-Point Championship this Thursday at St. Mary’s University at Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio.
The event, which is part of the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships, will air live on ESPN2 from 9-11 p.m. EST (8-10 p.m. CST). Of the five competitions, Wright’s event will be third in the pecking order.
The event coincides with the fanfare that will be going on for the Men’s NCAA Final Four, which is held at the Alamodome in San Antonio on March 31 and April 2. Wright will be the fourth Seminole women’s basketball player to participate in the 3-point championship, joining Linnea Liljestrand (2005), Courtney Ward (2011) and Alexa Deluzio (2013).
Wright emerged as one of the nation’s top 3-point shooters in the 2017-18 season, shattering the FSU single-season record with 103 3-point field goals. The native of Hooks, Texas, became just the fifth student-athlete in ACC Women’s Basketball history to make 100+ 3s in a season.
Wright had several noteworthy performances this season, including setting a school-record with nine 3-point field goals made in an 81-79 comeback overtime win at Wake Forest on Jan. 18. Only five games prior, Wright had originally set the school record with eight makes from long distance in a 103-65 win over North Carolina on New Year’s Eve.
In just two playing seasons with the Seminoles, Wright’s 171 3-point field goals made ranks fourth in program history. Ward, who played from 2007-11, is FSU’s career leader with 208.
The other competitions for the Thursday event include the Dunkin’ Donuts Slam Dunk Championship, the Great Clips Men’s 3-Point Championship, the Samsung Battle of the Champions and the Applebee’s Team Shootout.
