TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sophomore Brian Burns and junior Josh Sweat are among 34 players named to the Ted Hendricks Watch List Monday morning, given annually to the nation’s top defensive end. The winner will be announced December 6 by the Ted Hendricks Foundation.
Burns and Sweat ranked second and third on the team in 2016 with 9.5 and 7.0 sacks, respectively, helping Florida State rank second nationally with 51 sacks. Burns’ 9.5 sacks were the most for a freshman in the country and the most for a Florida State freshman since Ron Simmons had 12 in 1977.
Sweat’s 11.5 tackles-for-loss in 2016 trailed only former Seminole DeMarcus Walker, a Hendricks Award finalist last season. Burns ranked fourth on the team with 10.5.
The Ted Hendricks Award is named in honor of college football’s first three-time All-American.
