Osceola & Renegade

Arguably the greatest spectacle in college football unfolds moments before kickoff at Doak Campbell Stadium when Osceola charges down the field aboard Renegade, a beautiful Appaloosa, and plants a flaming spear at midfield prior to each home game. This tradition is a tribute to the great Seminole Tribe of Florida.

The tradition was born on Sept. 16, 1978, when a student, portraying the famous Seminole warrior Osceola, led the football team from the tunnel riding a horse as the Seminoles headed into battle against Oklahoma State.

Make sure to be in your seats before kickoff to watch Osceola plant the spear at midfield!

Numerous campus parking areas will be closed for reserved Seminole Booster parking on home football game days. All vehicles (including motorcycles and scooters) MUST be removed from these lots by 11:59 PM the night before gameday.

Unconquered Statue

Dedicated on October 10, 2003, Fritz White’s bronze statue “Unconquered” was designed to capture the indomitable spirit of the Seminole people and those who have adopted that spirit as a symbol for their university.

The massive structure, including its granite-covered pedestal base, stands approximately 31 feet in the air and depicts a spear-brandishing Seminole astride a rearing horse. At sunset the night before each home game, the spear is ignited and burns until sunrise on the next morning after the game.

Videoboard Messages

War Chant

FSU's "war chant" was first heard in its current form in 1984, although its roots extend back some two decades. In the 1960s, members of FSU's Marching Chiefs band chanted the melody of a popular cheer, "Massacre," during football games. In a sense, "Massacre" was the long version of the current war chant.

During a football game against Auburn in 1984, the Marching Chiefs began to perform the cheer. Some students behind the band joined in and continued the "war chant" portion after the band had ceased.

The chant continued largely among the student body during the 1985 season, and by the 1986 season was a stadium-wide activity. The Marching Chiefs refined the chant, adding its own special brand of musical accompaniment — and the result still is seen and heard today.

Water Fountain

Water fountains are located on the east side lower level concourse adjacent to most stadium restrooms. Fans can also bring empty water bottles to fill at the fountains.

Weather Delays

During a weather delay, fans will be allowed re-entry. Updates on the game will be shared on @Seminoles and @FSUFootball social media, on the videoboard at Doak Campbell Stadium, and announced over the PA system.

Will Call

Will Call tickets can be picked up at the Dick Howser ticket window starting three and a half hours prior to kickoff.
