Lady Seminoles fight hard but fall in a close match to No. 21 LSU

TALLHASSEE, FL.– Florida State women’s tennis team faced No. 21 LSU this afternoon at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium. Although the women took the doubles point, they fell short in singles competition with only two Lady Noles able to overcome the LSU Lady Tigers. This was the first time since 1990 that the Lady Tigers were able to take a win over the Seminoles.


Florida State started the afternoon off to a good start when they were able to take the doubles point from LSU. Christina Denny teamed with Samantha Schoeffel to take the win over Fernanda Tsucamoto and McIlhaney 8-6. The FSU tandem of Marina Raic and Natalie Carratala also got the win over LSU’s Tami Botts and Lauren Haddix 8-1.


In singles play, No. 68 Alida Gallovits took on No. 42 Bruna Colosio, with a close first match of 7-5, Gallovits fell to Colosio in the second match losing 6-1. The winners of the day for the Lady Seminoles included Schoeffel, who played in her first singles match for FSU. Schoeffel played at the No. 6 position and defeated Mandy Rice 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. Nanette Duxin also came through for the Seminoles winning her match over LSU’s Botts 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.


The women now return home to prepare for rival Miami. The women will travel to Coral Gables, Fl to face the Hurricanes beginning at noon on Saturday, February 24th.
