Three Seminoles Earn All-ACC Honors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – As the 2017 regular season transitions into the NCAA Championship next week, the Florida State soccer team earned several individual accolades on Thursday as the Atlantic Coast Conference announced its end of season awards, as voted on by the league’s 14 head coaches.

The Seminoles placed three players on the three All-ACC Teams, with junior Natalia Kuikka and sophomore Deyna Castellanos on the All-ACC First Team, while freshman Gloriana Villalobos was named to the All-ACC Third Team, as well as being chosen to the 11-member All-Freshman Team.

It is the second time for Kuikka and Castellanos to be selected to the All-ACC Team as both were named to the All-ACC Second Team in 2016.

It marked the ninth time in the last 10 years that the Seminoles have placed multiple players on the All-ACC First Team, and Florida State is the only conference school, other than regular season champion Duke, to have more than one player recognized on the First Team in 2017.

Three Seminoles Earn All-ACC Honors

Castellanos closed out the regular season by leading the conference in goals (15) and points (32) as she ranked in the top 10 nationally in both categories. She had four multi-goal games this season, with two goals each against Kentucky, Troy and Notre Dame, as well as a hat trick on opening day versus UNC Greensboro.

Kuikka played in 14 matches this season and missed four games due to international call-ups for the Finland National Team. The junior captain anchored the Seminole defensive backline and helped FSU record six shutouts, including a 2-0 victory on the road at No. 10 Florida. She also scored a goal offensively in a 4-2 win at Samford on August 24.

Villalobos solidified the midfield for the Seminoles in 2017, starting in all 18 games this season. The Costa Rica native transitioned quickly in her first year of collegiate soccer and helped facilitate an offense that scored 36 goals on the season and recorded six shutouts defensively. Individually, Villalobos scored one goal on the season, which was the game-winner against Boston College on October 5, and assisted on both Seminole goals in a 2-0 win on the road over No. 10 Florida on October 12.

The Seminoles now wait to find out their placement in the field of 64 for the 2017 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship, which will be revealed on Monday, November 6 during the NCAA Selection Show streamed live on NCAA.com at 4:30 p.m. The opening round matches of the tournament will start on Friday, November 10.
