Scottie Barnes Bio

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Florida State’s Scottie Barnes is one of seven freshmen in the nation – and one of only two freshmen in the ACC – to be named to the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top-50 Watch List as the most outstanding player in college basketball. Barnes is among an outstanding group of players who are among the top candidates for the Wooden Award and the Wooden Award All-American Team chosen by a panel of college basketball experts.

In addition to his inclusion on the Wooden Award Watch List, Barnes is also on the Naismith Player of the Year Watch List and the Bob Cousy Award Watch List as the nation’s top point guard. He has also been selected as the Preseason ACC Freshman of the Year and as an All-ACC First Team player by the media at ACC Operation Basketball and is a preseason All-ACC First Team and All-American Third team selection by CBS Sports.

Barnes averaged 11.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.6 assists in helping Montverde Academy to a 25-0 record in 2020. The Eagles earned an average margin of victory of 39 points per game with Barnes in their starting lineup. He earned All-American First Team honors from both MaxPreps and Sports Illustrated and was a finalist for the MaxPreps National Player of the Year award. Barnes was selected to play in the McDonald’s All-American game, the Jordan Brand Classic and the Nike Hoop Summit following his spectacular senior season.

Barnes and his Seminole teammates open their season Wednesday night at home against North Florida. Florida State leads the all-time series against the Ospreys by a 4-0 margin – a series that includes a 98-81 win at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee on December 17, 2019.

Florida State enters the 2020-21 season as the defending ACC Champions. The Seminoles finished the 2019-20 season with a 26-5 overall record and a 16-4 record in ACC play. The Seminoles’ 16 wins led to the first regular season ACC Title in school history.

Barnes is the highest rated recruit at Florida State under Head Coach Leonard Hamilton and his staff. As the No. 6 overall ranked and No. 1 ranked power forward in the 2020 recruiting class he was ranked just ahead of Jonathan Isaac who came to Florida State as the No. 8 rated recruit in 2016. Barnes’ signing with Florida State for the 2020-21 season marked the fifth time in the past six recruiting classes the Seminoles have landed a player ranked in the top 10 in the nation.
