TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Trey Cunningham was named to The Bowerman 2021 Men’s Pre-NCAA Indoor Watch List, announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) today (March 4).

The senior from Winfield, Ala. has remained consistently at the top this indoor season. He is coming off the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, where he earned his fourth Championship gold in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.67.

Cunningham’s performance at ACC Indoors makes him the first ever athlete to win four straight titles in the 60-meter hurdles. It also makes him one of just four male athletes to win four indoor golds in ACC history.

Cunningham currently stands as the NCAA leader in the 60-meter hurdles with his 7.55 winner from the Tyson Invitational on February 13. He continues to remain unbeaten collegiately and has forever changed the Florida State record books with his time of 7.51 on February 14, 2020 setting a new school record. He also owns two of the top fastest times in NCAA History – No. 7 (7.51) and No. 8 (7.52).

“Trey has been outstanding the entire season,” said Head Coach Bob Braman. “He’s undefeated and is chasing his own best marks. He’s really deserving of being a Bowerman finalist.

Additionally, Isaac Grimes is also receiving votes but narrowly missed out on a spot among the 10 men featured on Wednesday’s list.

The Bowerman, which debuted in 2009 and is named after former Oregon coach Bill Bowerman, is presented annually by the USTFCCCA to the most outstanding male and female collegiate track and field athletes in the nation.

The next Watch List for The Bowerman expected to be announced on March 24 for the women and March 25 for the men following the NCAA Indoor Championships. The watch list represents the consensus among members of The Bowerman Watch List committees in regard to who is currently on their radar for consideration to win this year’s award. These student-athletes may or may not have competed yet this year, but based on past credentials have the attention of the committee.
