TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State Women’s Basketball received some tremendous news on Monday evening when the NCAA informed Florida State Athletics that current junior forward Erin Howard was granted immediate eligibility for the 2020-21 season.
Howard still has three years of eligibility remaining (including 2020-21 year) because of the NCAA Division I Council’s decision to allow winter sport athletes an additional season of competition because of the impacts of the pandemic.

The native of Madison, Wis., showed vast improvement in her two years at Auburn, more than doubling her scoring average last year with 7.6 points per game. As a 6-foot-1 forward, Howard has a strong inside-outside game that includes shooting nearly 35 percent (34.4) from beyond the arc in her sophomore year with the Tigers.
Florida State is a guard-heavy team in 2020-21, so the addition of Howard as a forward is critical. Redshirt junior Savannah Wilkinson, junior Valencia Myers and sophomore River Baldwin are Florida State’s other post players, although FSU has others who can switch between playing as a 3 or 4.
Howard has the ability to stretch the floor, leading Auburn last season in 3-point shooting, 3-point field goals made (45) and can also create havoc on the defensive end with a team-leading 21 blocked shots.
The Madison East High School product ended last season on a strong note, with one of her last games being a career-best 22-point outing at Missouri on Feb. 27, 2020. Down the stretch of her sophomore campaign, Howard averaged 14.8 points per game over her final four games.
Florida State Women’s Basketball begins its 2020-21 season on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Florida A&M. Game times and television selections for all of FSU’s games this season will be announced soon.
