Florida State Travels West For ITA Kickoff Weekend

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State women’s tennis team is playing the ITA Kickoff Weekend hosted by Stanford University, facing Arkansas on Friday and either No. 7 Stanford or Kansas State on Saturday.

The Seminoles are 3-0 in 2023 after a perfect opening weekend at home. FSU defeated FGCU 6-1 on Friday before sweeping a Sunday doubleheader over Mercer and FAMU by scores of 7-0 and 4-0, respectively.

Senior Vic Allen and junior Ellie Schoppe lead the Seminoles with three singles wins. Allen was dominant in the season’s first weekend, winning 37 of 43 games played and taking four of the six sets at love, including 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0 final scores on Sunday at the No. 2 singles position. Schoppe displayed her mastery as well, winning 6-0, 6-4 at No. 5 Friday before a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 4 against Mercer and a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 against FAMU.

Junior Anna Arkadianou, the No. 52-ranked singles player nationally, is 1-0 this season after a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 1 against FGCU. She also boasts a 2-0 doubles mark at No. 1 with Allen and partnered with freshman Millie Bissett for a 5-2 lead at No. 1 doubles Sunday against FAMU in a match that was unfinished once the team doubles point was clinched. Schoppe has teamed with senior Kianah Motosono for two wins at No. 2 doubles, claiming a 6-0 win against FGCU and a 6-1 victory over Mercer.

Senior Mila Saric is 2-0 in both singles and doubles, earning straight-set wins at No. 2 singles against FGCU and at the No. 1 position against Mercer, and teamed with redshirt sophomore Alice Amendola for doubles wins against Mercer and FAMU. Amendola picked up a singles win at No. 6 against FGCU and had a 6-2, 5-1 lead at No. 5 against FAMU when the team victory was clinched.

FSU’s freshman trio of Bissett, Cade Cricchio and Kristyna Lavickova are all 1-0 in singles play this season. Bissett earned a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 over Mercer, while Cricchio posted a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 against FAMU and Lavickova won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 against Mercer. Cricchio and Lavickova teamed up for a 6-1 win over FAMU at No. 3 doubles. Sophomore Olympe Lancelot won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3 singles against Mercer and was leading 6-3, 3-0 at No. 4 against FAMU when the match was decided. She also teamed with Bissett for a 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles against Mercer.

Arkansas is 2-0 this season after sweeping a doubleheader at Arkansas State on Saturday. The Razorbacks are led by Carolina Gomez Alonso, who is ranked 36th nationally in singles. Stanford is 1-0 and has four players ranked in singles, led by 11th-ranked Connie Ma, and has the country’s 36th-ranked doubles duo of Alexis Blokhina and Alexandra Yepifanova. Kansas State is 1-1 so far this season with a win over FAU and a loss to FGCU.

Florida State and Arkansas are set for a 1 p.m. Eastern Time first serve Friday. The winners from Friday’s matches will meet Saturday at 4 p.m. ET, and the losing teams from Friday will compete at 1 p.m. ET Saturday. Live stats and live video for all matches will be available on Seminoles.com.
