Sally Summer, an outside hitter from Miami, Florida, started all four seasons over her hall of fame career from 1980-83 on Seminole volleyball teams.
Summer’s career numbers rank among the Top 25 in Florida State history in kill attempts (5th-2790), kills (20th-1057), kills per game (23rd-2.72), service aces (5th-160), service aces per game (5th-.41), solo blocks (25th-37), points (17th-1333.0) and points per game (24th-3.44).
Summer was fifth on the team in hitting percentage as a freshman in 1980 and third on the team in service aces and service aces per game as a sophomore and junior. She earned Metro Conference All-Tournament honors as a senior in 1983.
Florida State was 144-44-1 over her four-year career including a fourth-place finish nationally in the 1981 AIAW National Championship Tournament. FSU earned AIAW bids in 1980 finishing with a 43-14-1 record and 1981 finishing 43-8. Florida State competed in the Metro Conference beginning in 1982 with FSU winning the conference championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament with a 31-6 record her senior season.
