Winston-Salem, NC –The 25th-ranked FSU women’s tennis team had to play short-handed once again Sunday due to injury while facing another ranked opponent on the road. With just two doubles teams and five singles players, the Seminoles (6-5, 1-3) were unable to upset the nation’s 20th-ranked team falling 6-1 at Wake Forest (9-4, 1-1).
Petra Hule continued her strong play for the Seminoles winning her 10th straight singles match and recording another top 50 win. The Australian is undefeated in singles dual matches this season all on court one. She is coming off a top 10 win Friday and now has four wins in 2022 versus ranked opponents.
After dropping the doubles point, Florida State had no court six player in singles giving the Deacons a 2-0 lead. Wake went on to then win four of the five first sets with the lone exception being Hule on court one. Wake was able to build on those first set leads and take points on courts four and five to secure the victory.
The Seminoles are back on the road next week to play a pair of in-state opponents. Friday, FSU will travel to Coral Gables for an ACC match versus Miami. Sunday, the Seminoles will stop in Fort Myers to face Florida Gulf Coast.
