M. Basketball To Host Purdue In ACC/Big Ten Challenge Wednesday At 7:15

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State, which has won three consecutive home games in the ACC / Big Ten Challenge, plays host to No. 5 Purdue in the 2022 ACC /Big Ten Challenge presented by Continental Tire. The Seminoles enter the event for the 24th time with consecutive home victories against Minnesota (75-67, Nov. 28, 2016), Purdue (73-72, Nov. 28, 2018) and Indian (69-67 in overtime, Dec. 9, 2020). The Seminoles have gained nine wins at home in the ACC / Big Ten Challenge against five different teams — Minnesota (2000, 2007, 2012, 2016), Iowa (2002), Northwestern (2003), Purdue (2005, 2018) and Indiana (2020) – and pay host to the Boilermakers for the third time in the series. The Seminoles are 2-0 at home in the event against Purdue with victories at the Tucker Center in both 2005 and 2018. Purdue is the Seminoles’ second-most common opponent in the event, as the two teams will meet for the fourth time with Florida State holding a 2-1 series advantage. Florida State has faced Minnesota five times in the history of the challenge. Following Florida State’s game against Purdue on Wednesday, the Seminoles begin conference play at No. 3 Virginia on Saturday in Charlottesville in a 2 p.m. tip off on ESPN2.
FLORIDA STATE VS. PURDUE — CONNECTIONS
Florida State plays host to Purdue in the 24th annual ACC / Big Ten Challenge on November 30, 2022 at the Donald L .Tucker Center in Tallahassee. The game is the fourth meeting between the two teams in the Challenge with Florida State holding a 2-1 lead in Challenge games. The Seminoles defeated the Boilermakers in challenge games during both the 2005 (97-57 in Tallahassee) and 2018 (73-72 in Tallahassee) seasons. Florida State most recent win over Purdue came by a 63-60 score in overtime in the championship game of the 2019 Emerald Coast Classic and lead the all-time series against the Boilermakers by a 4-1 margin. Matt Painter, the head coach of the Boilermakers since the start of the 2005-06 season, has faced the Seminoles four times – with Florida State defeating his first Purdue team in the ACC / Big Ten Challenge in 2005, his 2018-19 team also in the ACC / Big Ten Challenge and his 2019-20 team in the Emerald Coast Classic. Boilermaker assistant coach Brandon Brantley has coached against Florida State three times (in the 2018 and 2021 ACC / Big Ten Challenge and the 2019 Emerald Coast Classic) and is 1-2 as a coach against the Seminoles. Terry Johnson, who is in his second season at Purdue, faced Florida State as an assistant coach at Butler – a 67-64 Bulldog win on December 23, 2010 at the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu and as a member of Purdue’s staff during the 2021 ACC / Big Ten Challenge. Paul Lusk, who is in his second season (and second stint) as a Purdue assistant coach, was a Boilermaker assistant coach on November 29, 2005 when Florida State took its first win over the Boilermakers in the ACC / Big Ten Challenge. Elliott Bloom, Purdue’s Director of Basketball Administration and Operations, was the sports information director for the Duke men’s basketball team during the 2000-01 season.
2023 WILL USHER IN THE ACC / SEC CHALLENGE
The Atlantic Coast Conference, the Southeastern Conference and ESPN Monday (November 28) announced the formation of the ACC/SEC Challenge for men’s basketball, which will begin as part of the 2023-24 season. ACC and SEC teams will square off as part of the annual Challenge. Each one of the 28 games (30 starting in 2025-26) will be carried on an ESPN platform and each conference will host an equal number of home games.
FLORIDA STATE IN BACK TO BACK MATCH-UPS IN THE AC / BIG TEN CHALLENGE
Florida State’s game in the 2022 ACC / Big Ten Challenge marks the fourth time in the history in the ACC / Big Ten Challenge that the Seminoles will face its Big Ten opponent for the second consecutive season. The Seminoles faced Ohio State (2009, 2010), Minnesota (2012, 2013) and Indiana (2019, 2020) in back-to-back years and will face Purdue (2021, 2022) for the second consecutive year on Wednesday in Tallahassee.

Florida State, the 2012 and 2020 ACC Champion, plays at Purdue in the 2022 ACC Challenge / Big Ten on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at the Donald L. Tucker Center. It marks the fourth time the two teams will meet in the history of the Challenge. The Seminoles have helped the ACC win 12 of the 23 challenges with three having been played to ties. The ACC leads the series, 12-8-3.

Florida State is 89-11 at home in the last six (plus) seasons (.890 winning percentage). The Seminoles have won 89 of their last 100 home games since February 27, 2015. The Seminoles won their final three home games of the 2015-16 season (Notre Dame, Syracuse, Davidson) and have won 86 of 97 home games (.887 winning percentage) in the last six seasons (2018 through 2022).

Seminole Head Coach Leonard Hamilton is the fifth winningest coach in ACC history with 396 career wins and ranked fifth in ACC history with 177 career ACC wins at Florida State.
HAMILTON APPROACHING ACC MILESTONE
Florida State Head Coach Leonard Hamilton enters the 2022 ESPN Events Invitational with 396 career wins as the Seminoles’ Head Coach in the ACC. He is just four wins shy of becoming the fifth coach in ACC history with 400 or more wins as a coach in the nation’s top conference for basketball. Hamilton is looking to join a select group that consists of Mike Krzyzewski, Duke (1,129 wins), Dean Smith of North Carolina (879 wins), Roy Williams of North Carolina (485 wins) and Gary Williams of Maryland (461 wins).

FLORIDA STATE WITH 14 VICTORIES OVER AP TOP 25 TEAMS IN LAST FOUR SEASONS
Florida State enters Wednesday’s game against No. 5/5 Purdue with 14 victories over nationally ranked opponents since the start of the 2018-19 season. The Seminoles won a school-record seven games against nationally ranked opponents during the 2016-17 season and have defeated a school-record 58 nationally ranked opponents under head coach Leonard Hamilton. Included in the list of victories over nationally ranked teams since the beginning of the 2018-19 season is a 73-72 win over No. 18/18 Purdue in Tallahassee on November 28, 2019, in the ACC / Big Ten Challenge.
