Men Complete Perfect Day With Win Over Samford

Box Score

Tallahassee, FL – The Florida State men’s tennis team completed a perfect day on the courts with a 4-0 win over Samford Friday evening. FSU defeated South Alabama earlier in the day to improve to 4-0 on the year having dropped just one point in four matches.

“It was a good day overall,” said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. “We got challenged by South Alabama this morning and came right back and picked up another win tonight.”

The Seminoles made quick work in doubles versus Samford Friday evening taking the point 2-0. Youcef Rihane and Bryn Nahrung were off first at 6-0. Josh Dous-Karpenschif and Maks Silagy followed shortly behind with a 6-1 win to give FSU the 1-0 lead.

“I thought we were good in doubles all day,” said Hultquist. “We won both doubles points and were in position to win all our doubles matches. I was pleased how we came out to start in both matches.”

With two matches moving indoors due to weather (FSU vs Samford and USA versus Stetson) and being played simultaneously, FSU started singles with John Bernard, Youcef Rihane and Loris Pourroy getting the first crack and sealing the win and they did just that. Rihane was the first off on line three with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Pourroy remained unbeaten on the year with a 6-3, 6-2 victory and just moments later Bernard followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win to clinch the match.

“It was really pleased with John today getting in and dominating his match and clinching the victory versus Samford,” said Hultquist. “It was a nice effort from Loris winning all his matches today. We had to rely on Loris and Youcef today. They played in every match and did great.

“Earlier today, I was really pleased with how Youcef came back and won a third set and clinched it. I was also pleased with how Seb came back after dropping the first set and was up convincingly in the third. Even though we had a match point to win the match with Andy at two, the other guys stayed focused and closed it out well.”

The Noles will wrap up weekend play tomorrow hosting Stetson at 2:00 at the Indoor Tennis Facility. For the most updated information on the Seminole Men’s Tennis program, please follow us on social at FSUMTennis (IG) and @FSU_MTennis (TW) and log on to Seminoles.com.
