Men’s Tennis Hosts Abilene Christian for Mid-Week Match

Match Notes

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 41st ranked Florida State men’s tennis team (10-5, 1-2) is back home after being on the road the last two weeks. They host Abilene Christian (13-3) this Wednesday, March 13th at 5:30 pm.

The Noles and Wildcats have never met in tennis and have only met three times in any sport. The two teams played each other in football three times in the 1950s.

Abilene Christian is led by Josh Sheehy. Sheehy is 11-3 this spring with a 10-3 record on court one. He is 2-2 against ranked opponents. Josh’s younger brother Jonathan Sheehy has played most of his season on court two. He is 9-5 in dual matches and 1-1 against ranked opponents.

LAST TIME OUT
Florida State lost to Miami 4-0 at the USTA National Campus. The match was a part of the Collegiate Series. Florida State lost the doubles point and five first sets. They forced two third sets and were heading to a third on court one before Miami clinched the match.

51 – Florida State has outscored its opponents 51-26 in their first 15 matches of the season.

16 – The Seminoles have been to 16 consecutive NCAA Tournaments (11th longest streak in the nation).
6 – Aziz Dougaz earned his sixth pro doubles title at the beginning of January.

NOLES IN THE POLLS

In the latest Oracle/ITA poll, Florida State comes in at No. 41. This marks the 36th straight week that the Noles have been ranked in the ITA Poll dating back to February 24, 2017.

The Seminoles have one ranked singles players in redshirt senior Lucas Poullain (No. 99) and one ranked doubles pair in Aziz Dougaz/Alex Knaff (No. 63).
