Hodges Named First Team All-ACC

The 2004-05 All-ACC Women’s Basketball Teams were announced Tuesday afternoon and senior Roneeka Hodges, who has played just this season for the Seminoles, represented Florida State on the first team. With the honor, Hodges became just the third Seminole ever to garner All ACC first team. Former Seminole greats Tia Paschal (1993) and Brooke Wyckoff (2001) also earned first team honors.
“It’s great to be recognized by others,” Hodges said, “but I think the most important thing is the success of the team. This wouldn’t be possible if the team didn’t win. Without my teammates, I couldn’t have done the things that I’ve done this year. So I consider this a team accomplishment. Even though it’s my name, it’s still Florida State.”
Hodges averages 18.7 points per game which is second-best in the ACC. She has had 11, 20+ points this season, including an FSU record 39 points in the squad’s overtime win over then-No. 15 Maryland. With more games to be played, Hodges’ 543 points this season rank fourth on FSU’s single-season scoring list.
Junior Ganiyat Adeduntan and sophomore Alicia Gladden received honorable mention recognition. Adeduntan is averaging 11.6 points per game and a team-high 7.7 rebounds per outing. Over the final six regular-season games, she averaged a double-double with 14.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Gladden, who leads the ACC with an amazing 95 steals this season, is averaging 12.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
“This is a great honor for Roneeka,” FSU head coach Sue Semrau said, “and rather than being sour about other folks not getting their accolades, it isn’t about individual accolades for us. It’s really been so much about a team effort. It’s been about team defense. But it does show what Roneeka has meant to this team and to this program.
“The other Florida State players who have earned this honor were both impact players,” Semrau continued. “Roneeka’s honor comes at a time where other players are ready to step up and follow that. For Roneeka to come in and make that kind of impact in one season is a tribute to her and I believe it will be followed up. At this point in time, I think it’s more programmatic than just an individual who shines.”
