During the month of November SAAC challenged the Florida State Athletic Department to collect cans for their annual canned food drive. This year over 500 cans were collected from 16 teams and five administrative departments. More than 100 student-athletes participated in the three-week long drive.
Cans and packages of pasta, tomato sauce, peanut butter, canned meat, ravioli, fruit, and oatmeal were sorted and delivered to the Dean of Students Food Pantry, helping to fulfill their wish list. The Dean of Student’s provide canned and packaged food to students whom are less fortunate. Students may visit the pantry as much as need.
“It was important for us to give back to a community that has given us so much,” said women’s track and field athlete Marecia Pemberton. “The students and general population support us almost 365 days a year. As a SAAC we are trying to help support them as much as they do for us.”
