Hall of Fame Class: 1980 (Swimming and Diving)

In the late fifties, Bucky Hiles came from Atlanta to star for legendary Coach Bim Stults’ Seminole swimming team. In 1959, he was an All-American in the 440 freestyle and in 1961 he again gained All-American recognition, this time in the 100 yard butterfly. Hiles was the first Seminole swimmer to earn All-America status in two different strokes. At one time, he held school records in seven different events. He was chosen the university’s Athlete of the Year in 1961. One of the most versatile swimmers in Seminole history, Bucky Hiles’ performances brought national recognition to Florida State University.
