Hall of Fame Class: 1983 (Men's Golf)
A New Yorker named Jack Veghte came to Florida State in 1953 where he played number one for the Seminole golf team for the next four years. Veghte won more than 30 dual matches while losing only three. He was Florida Intercollegiate runner-up in 1957 and winner of the New York State Amateur Championship. He graduated from FSU that same year and would continue his career as an amateur golfer. He was a three-time Florida State amateur champion and in 1975 Veghte was a U.S. Amateur quarterfinalist. In 1980 and 1981, he was Southern Amateur runner-up.
