BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 5 Florida State beach volleyball team (6-1, 4-1 CCSA) earned two 4-1 wins on the first day of FAU’s Beach Burrow Bash, taking down UAB and No. 4 LSU on Friday. With the two wins on the opening day of the tournament, FSU reached 100 wins as an NCAA program.

The Seminoles have now earned three straight conference wins and earned their fourth ranked win of the season. Florida State avenges a loss to LSU that it suffered just last weekend in Tallahassee, as the Tigers’ 3-2 win makes them the only CCSA team to defeat the Seminoles since beach volleyball was added to the CCSA.

Florida State saw a new lineup on Friday, moving the sophomore duo of Alaina Chacon and Madison Fitzpatrick to the No. 1 position against UAB, with three new pairs below them in the lineups – 2018’s dominant pair of Kuhlman/McBain, senior Nikki Esposito and freshman Kate Privett, and sophomores Ashley Robert and Avery Poppinga.

The team’s lineup against LSU stayed similar to the first weekend of competition, with Kuhlman/Rund leading at the No. 1 position. The Noles in the second through fifth positions all earned a point for FSU, as Chacon/Fitzpatrick finished off Powers/Rasnick-Pope in two sets, and the other three courts were decided in three sets.

FSU returns to the sand tomorrow afternoon to take on two more conference opponents – No. 10 South Carolina at noon and No. 18 FAU at 4:00 pm.
