Pisani Named to Canadian World Championship Team

TORONTO, Ont. – After taking home five All-American accolades at the 2019 NCAA Championships, Florida State senior Will Pisani was named to the Canadian World Championship Team on Sunday by Swimming Canada.
Pisani will make the trip to the 2019 FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea along with 24 other Canadians to compete in the 400 free relay after he took bronze with a personal best of 49.43 in the 100m free at the 2019 Canadian Trials that were held from April 3-7 at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.
Freshman Nina Kucheran was also selected to the squad that will compete at the 2019 World University Games this summer in Napoli, Italy from July 3-14 following her performance at Trials.
“I could not be more excited for Will,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “He really deserves this. It’s also very exciting to see Nina qualify for the World University Games. She has a bright future ahead of her. It’s awesome to see our Noles at the very highest level of this sport.”
Pisani started the meet off on April 3 by taking gold in the 50m fly with a time of 23.57, which is an FINA ‘A’ standard and is the 10th fastest time in the world this year. He followed with a bronze in the 100m fly (53.21) and silver in the 50m free (22.30).
Kucheran won bronze in the 50m breast, touching with a time of 31.66. The Sudbury, Ontario, native begin the meet by finishing in sixth place in the 200m breast with a time of 2:29.43 following a prelim swim of 2:28.86.
Kucheran then posted a time of 1:08.92 in the 100m breast for fifth place and also finished in 16th place in the 200m IM to close out the meet at 2:18.65.
Freshman Maddie McDonald also swam at the meet, finishing 20th in the 100 back (1:04.09) before finishing in eighth place in the 50m back (29.28).
Sophomore Emma Terebo also made the trip, winning the consolation final of the 50m back at 28.80 after posting a time of 1:02.33 in prelims of the 100m back for 14th place.
McCusker Swims Personal Bests at Irish Open
Freshman Max McCusker returned to Europe to compete in the Irish Open Championships, which ran from March 27-31 in Dublin at the National Aquatic Centre.
McCusker posted four career bests, taking home bronze in the 50m fly (24.45) to start off the meet. He also finished in sixth place in the 50m free (23.48) and 11th in both the 100m free (51.17) and 200m free (1:52.68).
