Noles Conclude Regular Season at North Florida and Stanford

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State track and field team will conclude their regular season at the UNF Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla., and the Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, Calif. The majority of the Noles will be competing in Jacksonville while Lauren Ryan, Adriaan Wildschutt and Ahmed Muhumed will run Friday in Stanford. Competition in Jacksonville will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday with the men’s pole vault and the women’s shot put. Lauren Ryan will kick things off at 11:36 p.m. in Stanford.
Noles On Top
The Noles have six individual athletes and three relay teams that are on top of the ACC performance list. Jo’Vaughn Martin (100m Dash), DaeQwan Butler (400m Dash), Trey Cunningham (110m Hurdles), James Rivera (400m hurdles), Edidiong Odiong (100m Dash, 200m dash) and Ruby Stauber all lead the conference in their respective events. The Noles also have the top times in the men’s 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay and the women’s 4x100m relay.
Putting the Nation on Notice
Two event groups for the Noles are ranked in the top four in their respective events. The men’s 100m dash sprinters, Jo’Vaughn Martin, Don’dre Swint, Amir Willis and Taylor Banks, are ranked second in the country in the event with an average time of 10.19.
The men’s long jumpers are ranked fourth in the country thanks to the group of Isaac Grimes, Jeremiah Davis, Jacore Irving and Riley Ott. Between the four of them, they average 7.56m. Davis and Grimes are tied for the 11th in the country with a mark of 7.92m.
Making History One Hurdle at a Time
Trey Cunningham continued his remarkable 2022 campaign in his outdoor season debut in the 110m hurdles at the Tom Jones Memorial. In his first race in over a month, Cunningham ran 13.22 in the preliminary race, just .01 seconds off of his personal best. Cunningham’s time is the fastest time in the NCAA this season. Posting a time that fast in a season opener is almost unheard of. Cunningham’s time was tied for the third-fastest time in a season opener in NCAA history. It also puts him tied for 10th on the NCAA all-time list.
Quick Sprints
- Head Coach Bob Braman is in his 18th year as the head coach of the Florida State track and field team.
- Braman leads all active ACC coaches and is No. 2 all-time with 31 combined ACC Championships.
- Braman brought in three new assistant coaches in Alex Midgett (Distance), Doug Reynolds (Throws) and Leevan Sands (Jumps).
- The Noles lead all ACC schools with 559 combined All-ACC honorees between the men’s and women’s team in the outdoor season.
- The Noles are the defending ACC Champions as the men and women swept the ACC team titles last season.
- The Noles return three individual ACC champions and two relay champions from last year’s ACC Outdoor Championships. Trey Cunningham (110 hurdles), Kelechi Nwanaga (Javelin) and Adriaan Wildschutt (5000m run) are the returning ACC champions.
- Cunningham currently has the fastest time in the NCAA in the 110m hurdles after running 13.22 at the Tom Jones Memorial.
- Cunningham’s season-opening time of 13.22 is tied for the third-fastest time in a season opener in NCAA history. His time also puts him tied for 10th on the NCAA all-time top ten list.
- Cunningham became the first Nole to win an indoor national championship since Dentarious Locke and James Harris in 2014. Cunningham took home the 60m hurdles title this past March in Birmingham, Ala. with a staggering time of 7.38.
- Cunningham remained on The Bowerman Watch List on Apr. 21. Cunningham is the first Nole to appear on The Bowerman Watch List in three straight seasons (2020-22). Cunningham has been on the Bowerman Watch List all season.
- Cunningham became the first Nole to be named the USTFCCCA National Men’s Athlete of the Week on Mar. 1.
- Cunningham took home the USTFCCCA South Region Athlete of the Year award, the ACC Men’s Track Performer of the Year award and the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award during the indoor season.
- Cunningham and Ruby Stauber took home ACC Track Performer of the Week awards on Apr. 19 following their performances at the Tom Jones Memorial.
- The Noles have two event groups ranked inside the top four according to the USFTCCCA. The men’s 100m dash runners (Jo’Vaughn Martin, Don’dre Swint, Amir Willis, Taylor Banks) are ranked second while the men’s long jumpers (Jeremiah Davis, Isaac Grimes, Jacore Irving, Riley Ott) are ranked fourth.

- Odiong is the only athlete in the conference to have the top time/mark in multiple events (100m dash, 200m dash).
- Lauren Ryan will be making her season debut in the 5000m run at the Payton Jordan Invitational.
