TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State women's tennis team received the Golden Torch Award on Saturday, during FSU's football game at Doak Campbell Stadium.

The award is given to the team with the highest cumulative grade-point average in the academic year. The Seminoles finished the 2022-2023 academic year with a 3.69 GPA, which was the highest among all Florida State athletics. The team has received this award twice since 2019 and six times since 2012.

Graduate student Vic Allen received the individual Golden Torch Award. The sports management major posted a 3.964 GPA. Allen has earned this award twice, along with being named to the Dean's List, President's List, ACC Academic Honor Roll, All-ACC Academic Team and an ITA Scholar-Athlete.

"I'm really proud of each of the women on our team and how unbelievably well they are able to balance the demands of sport and academics simultaneously," head coach Jen Hyde said. "What they do (and do well) is not easy, given the rigors of college athletics, travel, training, and recovery. They continue to lead the way every year in academic achievements right alongside their on-court successes. We have so many talented student-athletes within our sports programs and athletic department. I am just so very proud at how our women's tennis players are able to stand out in this way each year."

The Seminoles return to action October 19when they travel to Gainesville for the ITA SE Regional Championships.
