TAVARES, Fla. -- Following an extremely successful opening weekend at the AVCA Pairs National Qualifier during which the Florida State beach volleyball team won three pair's champions and saw 11 of its players finish with undefeated records, the Seminoles continue their five-match fall season at the 2023 AVCA Collegiate Beach East Coast Pairs Qualifier at Hickory Point Recreation Park (Oct. 21-22).

The two-day pairs event will consist of up to three matches per day per pair with the bid division having a maximum of two pairs per school. Seeding for pool play is based on the Tru Volley ratings. If two or more pairs are in the same pool from the same university, the lowest ranking pair(s) will be dropped one place to ensure that pool play only has one pair from each school.

"Our approach is the same as last weekend," said Florida State Head Coach Brooke Niles. "We are working on a lot of different things to add to our toolbox, so we are looking to try these things against different competition."

Junior Skyler Germann, who finished with a 5-0 record at the AVCA Pairs National Qualifier, is looking forward to her second weekend of competition as a Seminole.

"I have focused all my efforts this week on preparing to utilize the unique systems within our offenses and defenses," said Germann. "I am looking forward to playing with different teammates who possess amazing strengths that should complement mine. I am also very excited to play against new competition. This is my first year playing against schools on the east coast. Because of that, I am very eager to see how we shape up against different schools."

Germann played with Madelyne Anderson during the Seminoles first weekend of play with the pair finishing as the Pool 2 Champions and tied for first with teammates Ali Hansen and Raelyn White in the Bid Division of the competition. Germann and Anderson gained three wins over pairs from UAB with one win each coming against Southeastern Louisiana  and LSU.

Anderson's five wins gave her 109 wins for the Florida State career. She is tied for seventh in school history in total career wins and needs just one victory to become just the seventh player at Florida State to win 100 or more matches.

Sophomore McKenna Flaherty, who also earned a 5-0 record at the AVCA Pairs National Qualifier, is looking forward to another chance to compete with her Seminole teammates.

"Following this past week, the coaches have worked with us on spreading out our offense across the whole court and running different types of plays said Flaherty. "Looking at this weekend, I'm very excited to be out on the court competing again after taking a long time off. I'm also looking forward to playing with Arianna (Bergner) as she pushes me to be a better player and person on and off the court."

Flaherty earned four wins while playing with Bergner and one when she was paired with Addy White. Her victories came via four wins over four different pairs from LSU and one from Georgia State. Flaherty's four wins during the first weekend of the season were the first four of her Florida State career.

Following play at this weekend's event, Florida State plays host to Stetson in its only home competition day (Oct. 28) of the fall season. The event runs from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Beach Volleyball Courts adjacent to the Mike Long Track on Florida State's campus.
