Seminoles Race Past Charleston Southern in Season Opener

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – The No. 18 Florida State Women's Basketball team tipped off their 52nd season the right way with a 99-63 win against Charleston Southern on Monday night at the Tucker Center. FSU has now won 29 of the last 30 season openers and is 42-10 all-time in season-opening games.  
O'Mariah Gordon led all scorers with 21 points on 7-of-18 shooting from the floor. It marks the second time Gordon has scored 20+ points in a game in her career, with the last coming from a 108-51 FSU win vs Texas Southern in 2022 where Gordon scored a career-best 23.
 
Florida State had five players reach double-figure scoring, including 18 by Makayla Timpson, 15 from Amaya Bonner, 14 from Alexis Tucker and 10 by Sara Bejedi.
 
Brianna Turnage grabbed eight rebounds to lead a defensive effort that held Charleston Southern to 34.5 percent shooting and forced 30 turnovers.
 
FSU raced out to a 29-13 lead in the first quarter with Gordon scoring eight points. She was 6-of-7 from the line in addition to hitting one from the floor in the opening frame.
 
The Seminoles outscored Charleston Southern 29-12 in the second quarter to take a 58-25 lead into halftime.
Tucker scored six in the second quarter and her 12 points led the Noles at the half. Gordon had 11 points and Bonner scored five of her first-half 11 points in the second quarter.
 
The Seminoles made the most of CSU's turnovers, scoring 15 of their first-half points off turnovers.
 
The Seminoles shot 49 percent from the field (19-of-39) and 54 percent from beyond the arc nailing 7-of-13 as it entered halftime.
 
Florida State went on to outscore Charleston Southern 23-21 in the third quarter with Gordon leading all scorers with 19 after three quarters and Tucker recording 14.
 
The Seminoles will be back at the Tucker Center on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m. to host a big game vs. No. 11 Tennessee. Fans are encouraged to WEAR WHITE with the first 500 fans receiving a rally towel courtesy of Truist. Tickets to the game are just $4.
