Verse, Fiske Named AP All-Americans

TALLAHASSEE – Florida State defensive linemen Jared Verse and Braden Fiske were named Associated Press All-Americans Monday. Verse, a redshirt junior from Dayton, Ohio, is a second-team defensive end, while Fiske, a redshirt senior from Michigan City, Indiana, is a third-team defensive tackle.
Verse had 41 tackles in 2023, with 12.5 for loss and a team-high 9.0 sacks. He added three pass breakups, 11 quarterback hurries, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and a blocked extra point.
Verse had a career-high 2.5 sacks and a season-high 3.0 tackles for loss in Florida State's 24-15 win at Florida to earn ACC Player of the Week honors. He followed that up with 2.0 sacks and 3.0 tackles for loss in the Seminoles' 16-6 win over No. 14 Louisville in the ACC Championship Game.
Verse recovered a fumble against Syracuse, forced a fumble against the Gators and blocked an extra point against North Alabama. He had at least 2.0 sacks four times this year.
Fiske had 43 tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks this year. He set career-highs with nine tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks in the ACC Championship Game against Louisville, doubling his season sack and TFL totals. All six of Fiske's sacks and 8.5 of his TFL came over the final five games of the season.
Verse and Fiske spearheaded a Seminole defense that set ACC Championship Game records with 14.0 tackles for loss and 188 yards of total offense allowed.
Verse was previously named a second-team All-American from The Athletic and USA Today, was a first-team All-ACC selection and a semifinalist for the Lombardi Award and Lott IMPACT Trophy.
Fiske was the College Football News Newcomer of the Year and Defensive Interior Lineman of the Year and was second-team All-ACC.
Undefeated No. 4 Florida State (13-0) will face No. 6 Georgia (12-1) in the Capital One Orange Bowl on December 30, 2023 at 4:00 p.m.
