FSU Finishes 13-1 After Loss In Orange Bowl

12/30/2023 7:40:00 PM | Football

Miami Gardens, Fla. --  With a roster missing 25 players, including 14 starters, from the ACC Championship game 28 days ago, No. 5 Florida State lost to No. 6 Georgia 63-3 in the Capital One Orange Bowl in Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday.

The Seminoles trailed 7-0 after the first quarter before Georgia exploded for 35 points in the second quarter in the win.

Freshman Brock Glenn started at quarterback for the Seminoles and completed 9-of-26 passes for 139 yards.  Ja'Khi Douglas, who checked in at quarterback when the Seminoles went into their version of the "wildcat", led the team in rushing with eight carries for 46 yards.  Caziah Holmes had 29 yards on eight carries and five other Seminoles registered rushes.

Kentron Poitier led all FSU receivers with 84 yards on four receptions.  Darion Williamson had two catches for 38 yards and Douglas had two for 13 yards.

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck completed 13-of-18 for 203 and two touchdowns and did not play in the second half.

Kendall Milton was UGA's top rusher with 104 yards on nine rushes.  Roderick Robinson II had 70 yards on seven carries, Daijun Edwards and second-team quarterback Gunner Stockton both had seven rushes each gaining 62 and 47 yards, respectively.

Georgia scored first taking a 7-0 lead with 4:05 left in the first quarter on a 15-yard run by Kendall Milton.  The score came on UGA's second possession of the game and capped a 7-play, 69-yard drive.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to 14-0 three seconds into the second quarter on a five-yard run by Milton.  Georgia covered 82 yards on six plays on the drive.

Glenn connected on a pair of passes to Kentron Poitier to set up Florida State's only score of the game.  Starting on the 25, Glenn found Poitier for a 25-yard gain to the 42, then dropped a beautiful bomb that Poitier caught on UGA's three.  FSU was forced to settle for a 22-yard field goal to make it 14-3 with 12:34 left in the second quarter.

UGA scored on their ensuing drive to take a 21-3 lead with 11:48 before halftime on a 15-yard Daijun Edwards.

On the ensuing kickoff, Georgia recovered an FSU fumble and made it 28-3 on their next snap when receiver Ladd McConkey looked like he was going to throw after catching a screen but pulled it down and ran 27 yards for a touchdown.

After replay ruled a 36-yard pass from Glenn to Destyn Hill to the Bulldog's six was incomplete, Georgia made quick work of their next drive increasing their lead to 35-3 with 3:39 left in the second quarter.

UGA got another touchdown just before halftime to go to the locker room leading 42-3.

Georgia's 191 total yards in the first half was just 36 more than the Seminoles' 155, but the Bulldogs' averaged 12.7 yards per play to the Seminoles 5.5.

Glenn was 7-of-22 through the air over the first 30 minutes for 121 yards and was close on four other potential big plays.

Poitier was the only Seminole with more than one reception in the first half and he gained 84 yards on four receptions.

Beck completed 13-of-18 passes in the first half with a pair of touchdowns.  Milton led the Bulldogs with 104 yards on nine carries.  Dillon Bell was UGA's top receiver with four catches for 84 yards.

Georgia scored two touchdowns in the third quarter and added one more in the fourth for the 63-3 final score.
