TALLAHASSEE –  The Florida State women's basketball (5-1) team picked up its third straight win over Florida (3-2), defeating the Gators 98-74 at the Donald L. Tucker Center on Friday.

The Seminoles pulled away in the second quarter following a 20-0 run and never let the Gators back into the game. The 24-point margin of victory was the fourth highest for the Noles in the series history, and 98 points scored was the second-highest total.

"I'm really proud of our team," FSU head coach Brooke Wyckoff said. "It was a really important win over our rivals, a really good Florida team. The things we were able to do throughout the game, as a team, offensively we played really well and defensively there were some really good moments that made me proud of this team."

Ta'Niya Latson led the Noles in scoring with 25 points, five rebounds and five assists.

O'Mariah Gordon added 19 points, six rebounds, two assists and four steals, while Makayla Timpson scored 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds and added four blocks.  Timpson added nine points at the free throw line, setting a career high.

Malea Williams led FSU in rebounds with 11.

Dealing with foul trouble early, the Seminoles and Gators finished the first quarter tied, 16-16.

The Gators pulled ahead early in the second. Avery Treadwell grabbed an offensive rebound and put the shot back, starting the 20-0 stretch. FSU outscored Florida 31-15 in the second, holding the Gators to 33 percent from the floor. Playing with two fouls, Timpson added two blocks.

"Our second quarter was amazing defensively," Wyckoff added. "That led to our best offensive quarter. There are things that I am seeing that I really love. That's why we're doing this, but it takes time and reps and I am proud of the buy in from our players.

In the third, Gordon led the way with six points and two steals, extending the lead. 74-51.

Florida State outscored Florida 27-20 in the fourth quarter, ending the game 98-74.

The Seminoles will head to the U.S. Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam, running from Nov. 28-30. FSU will open the tournament against Texas Tech at 8 p.m.
